The Allan Labor Government is helping drivers in Bentleigh East get home sooner with upgrades to a busy local intersection now finished.
Works at the intersection of Centre Road and Bignell Road are now complete, improving safety for pedestrians accessing nearby St Peter’s Primary School and the Catholic Church.
Crews have installed new traffic lights and introduced dedicated left-turn and right-turn lanes on Bignell Road, while also delivering separated stopping bays and improved line marking to boost safety for bike riders
A new pedestrian-operated crossing has been installed on Bignell Road, along with new streetlighting, making it safer for pedestrians to cross the busy road.
During these works, crews also removed vegetation in the area, constructed a new footpath and relocated the St Peter’s Church boundary fence along Bignell Road.
With the traffic lights now switched on, these upgrades are benefitting the entire community of East Bentleigh, particularly our most vulnerable road users.
This $5 million project is part of the Local Road and Intersection Upgrade program, which is targeting suburban roads right across Melbourne to make life easier and safer for everyone travelling on our roads.
