New school crossing for Bentleigh West Primary

The Andrews Labor Government has delivered on its commitment and boosted safety to Bentleigh West Primary School students with the completion of a new pedestrian crossing on Centre Road.

Member for Bentleigh, Nick Staikos visited Bentleigh West Primary School to greet school children and teachers.

The $288,000 pedestrian operated crossing upgrade will replace the old flagged school crossing and boost safety for school children and their parents.

The upgraded pedestrian crossing will now assist school crossing supervisors by displaying red lights to stop traffic, and it will also provide a safer crossing point outside of school hours for local residents.

The new crossing complements the electronic 40km/h school speed zone that was introduced earlier this month.

The new crossing, in conjunction with the electronic school speed zone, will address a crash history at the site, which saw 15 crashes on Centre Road between Wilson Street and Rose Street over a five year period.

A number of near misses have also been reported on Centre Road by school crossing supervisors.
