New building now open at Valkstone Primary School
Families in Melbourne’s south east are getting the first-rate school facilities they deserve, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Bentleigh Nick Staikos today visited Valkstone Primary School in East Bentleigh to mark the grand opening of $3.5 million in school upgrades.
While at the school, Minister Merlino discussed plans for stage two upgrades which can now start thanks to fresh investment in this year’s Budget.
The new facilities being opened today provide students at the Bentleigh East school with new Prep classrooms, toilets and sickbay; while staff now have new office space and an upgraded lounge.
The next stage of upgrades will include the construction of new classrooms and upgrading of existing classrooms. It will also feature the modernisation of the school’s library and art room and computer pods.
Building can begin on stage two works thanks to an investment of more than $3.7 million in this year’s Budget. The school also shared in a $12 million of state-wide planning fund last year.
The upgrades will ensure local families can access a great local school equipped to deliver the best possible education.
The Labor Government has invested more than $2.5 billion in schools with 1,000 school upgrades currently underway and 56 new school being built across the state.
