Hitting sixes for local cricketers

Tomorrow’s local cricket stars will soon be enjoying better facilities at Moorabbin Cricket Club, Bentleigh Uniting Cricket Club, West Bentleigh Cricket Club, Southside East Caulfield Cricket Club and Monash Gryphons, with the announcement of funding through the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund – Cricket Facilities.

Member for Bentleigh Nick Staikos MP today announced $150,000 funding from the Andrews Labor Government to upgrade facilities at Moorleigh Reserve, Centenary Park, Victory Park and East Caulfield Reserve. Glen Eira Council is leading the project and providing the majority of the funding.

This funding will see the development of a new multi-purpose sports training facility at Moorleigh Reserve, providing a new four bay cricket training net facility, an extended synthetic surface and retractable nets which will allow for a range of activities and enable use of the facility outside of cricket season at which time it traditionally sits dormant.  The new facility will also provide improved access and opportunities for inclusion by users with a disability.

The funding will also provide additional training bays at Victory Park, Centenary Park and East Caulfield Reserve.  This will support the growth and increasing participation in cricket, particularly by juniors and females.

The projects are part of a four year initiative by the Andrews Labor Government, Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia to improve cricket participation opportunities for all Victorians.
