HELPING LITTLE ROCKERS PARTY TO PREVENT INFANT DEATHS

The Andrews Labor Government will match the first $20,000 raised in this year’s Little Rockers Red Nose Disco fundraising events.

Member for Bentleigh Nick Staikos today announced the contribution at a fundraising event for Red Nose Day at Roseberry house in Bentleigh with Little Rockers Radio founder Sarah Morrissey and Red Nose CEO Keren Ludski.

Little Rockers Red Nose Disco is a fundraiser for Red Nose Day where children can dance, have fun and dress up for a cause.

Launched in 2015, the event has helped raise more than $100,000 for Red Nose Victoria and aims to raise $100,000 this year alone.

Little Rockers invites Child Care Centres and Play Groups around the country to sign up for a day of disco-dancing and fun-filled activities, all while raising vital funds for Red Nose Day, which is on August 9.

With 3,200 children still dying suddenly and unexpectedly in Australia each year, funds raised through Red Nose Day activities go to Red Nose’s safe sleeping education, research programs and bereavement support services for families who have been impacted by the death of a child.

Red Nose Victoria has recently contributed to the Labor Government’s commitment to provide baby bundles for all first-time parents by providing valuable information for new parents on safe sleeping practices.

Around 35,000 new parents every year at all Victorian maternity hospitals have started receiving a free baby bundle, with all the essentials they need to help guide them through the first few months and years of their child’s life.

It is all part of the Labor Government’s $213.7 million plan to give new parents the information, support and care their family needs – with new parenting centres, more maternal and child health nurses and round-the-clock specialist sleep advice.

Parents can speak to their Maternal and Child Health nurse about Red Nose resources on safe sleeping and the sleeping environment or contact the free confidential 24-hour MCH Line on 13 22 29.

Child health and development information is also available on the Maternal and Child Health app, now available for download.
