Construction begins on new McKinnon Secondary College building
Work has started on a state of the art new building at McKinnon Secondary College thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.
Member for Bentleigh Nick Staikos today visited McKinnon Secondary College to turn the first sod on the school’s $9 million school upgrade – an election commitment of the Andrews Government.
McKinnon Secondary College received $9 million in the 2015-16 State Budget. This funding is being used to build a three-storey VCE centre which includes classrooms and learning areas, year 12 centre, physics and chemistry centre, administration areas and amenities.
The centre will include specialist teaching areas, like the chemistry and physics centre, with laboratories and prep rooms. There will be a year 12 centre, complete with study, lounge and amenities, so year 12 students can have a space to study, socialise and call their own in their important last year of high school.
Nine new classrooms will replace some of the older rooms that are currently in use. A larger flexible space will cater for large exam sessions, open learning, after school revision and various other activities.
The Andrews Government is investing billions of dollars to make Victoria the Education State – a state where every child, in every community, has access to a great education.
Taking our education system from good to great means fixing our schools and building the right infrastructure to support our students to thrive. Victoria will welcome new schools in addition to renovating, refurbishing, maintaining and rebuilding scores of other schools.
The Labor Government’s total investment in our schools is now more than $2.5 billion, including over 1,000 existing school projects and 56 new schools.
